The police in American Samoa have begun an investigation into reports that some defendants in the Wyatt Bowles Jnr case have received threatening phone calls while in prison.

23 year old Mr Bowles disappeared in February and is thought to have been shot and killed in a drug related incident.

One of the defendants, who is supposed to turn state witness against the main suspect in the alleged murder, says he has received calls threatening that he will be killed if he gives evidence.

The lawyer for Paulava Malala says he has concern for his clients safety and wants him moved to a safe palce.
