Fiji to clamp down on copyright piracy

10:55 am on 11 June 2003

Authorities in Fiji are to clamp down on piracy of all types by enforcing two relevant regulations brought into effect this year.

They are the Copyright Border Protection Regulations 2003 and Copyright Prescribed Countries Regulations 2003.

The first regulation enables customs officials to detain any pirated copies of works that enter the country, including literacy, dramatic, musical or audio-visual works.

The second deals with countries which are parties to the international conventions relating to copyright.

The cabinet has made the decision to enforce the regulations because Fiji is a party to most international copyright protection conventions.
