Police in American Samoa are conducting an investigation into a Cabinet member over his awarding of contracts.

The Chief Procurement Officer, Tafua F.Seumanutafa, is alleged to have given contracts to certain companies, incuding those belonging to his immediate family, without the required public bidding process.

The newspaper, Samoa News, says the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau issued search warrants to the ANZ-Amerika Samoa Bank in order for investigators to inspect Seumanutafa's bank accounts.
