Fiji trade mission in French Polynesia

8:47 am on 26 May 2003

A Fiji trade delegation has arrived in French Polynesia to explore ways of improve business ties.

The Fiji delegation is being led by the foreign minister, Kaliopate Tavola, who is scheduled to meet the territory's leaders, including President Gaston Flosse.

Shiu Raj of the Fiji Trade and Investment Board says the mission would not only like to find markets for Fiji products, such as food stuffs and furniture, but also source French Polynesian products for the Fiji market.

The trade mission to Papeete follows one to New Caledonia last year whose success prompted the FTIB to organise one to French Polynesia.

The French Pacific territories have the highest per capita incomes of the small island countries.
