The second senator in American Samoa's Ituau District, Maluia Filoitumua, has died at the age of 68.

Senator Maluia was admitted to hospital yesterday for complications from high blood pressure and died this morning.

He was the director of agriculture in the Lutali government of the 1980's and held the highest orator titles in Nu'uuli village.

The district's other senator, Sala Samiu, died in May, leaving now both senate seats for the district vacant.
