28 Samoan students shortlisted for scholarships under the Australian aid program have had their studies deferred for one year because of a shortage of funds.
The Secretary of the Scholarship Committee, Onosefulu Fuatai told Televise Samoa that Australia has insufficient funds because the money has been used elsewhere in Samoa.
As a consequence 28 applicants picked for scholarships to study in Fiji and Australia have been forced to stay home this year.
Jason Reynolds, the first secretary at the Australian High Commission, told Televise Samoa that Australia had to look at areas where short term savings could be made and the scholarships cuts are the result.
