Police in American Samoa are said to be preparing to extend their investigation into the alleged misuse of disaster relief funds to Samoa.

US federal money sent to American Samoa to help with recovery efforts following the floods and landslides in May may have been used to purchase cars and make repairs unrelated to the flooding.

The Samoa News says some funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency may also have been used to buy suppies that have then been shipped to Samoa.

The Attorney General, Fiti Sunia, has said the American Samoan government will investigate any alleged abuse of federal funds.
