The leader of a former militia group in Solomon Islands has undertaken to surrender the group's weapons, in about two week's time.

The leader of the now-disbanded Malaitan Eagle Force Jimmy Rasta made the promise to a delegation from the Australian-led intervention force at a meeting a short time ago.

He says a condition of the handover is the establishment of an amnesty for gun ownership.

Jimmy Rasta also says he is not worried about any allegations made against him regarding extortion or any other crimes, saying it is the people who do these things who should worry, not him.

He won't say how many guns will be handed in, but confirms they include military style weapons.
