The governor of Papua New Guinea's Sandaun province has called on the National government to seriously consider improving the security and surveillance at the PNG/Indonesia border.
He raised his latest concerns after 10 illegal immigrants entered the country by motor boat through the border at Vanimo.
The men, two Turkish nationals and eight Indians travelled to PNG using forged travel documents.
The National newspaper reports Mr Yuni saying the border post at Wutung is ill-equipped to monitor and control the daily movements of people travelling between Vanimo and Indonesia.
He says the surveillance at sea is non-existent, thus making illegal travel and trade possible because there are no resources to patrol the sea border.
Mr Yuni, who has been vocal about the issue since his election last year, says the government has been slow to address the poor security arrangement which he says puts the country at a very high risk.
He says Vanimo could be used by terrorists and smugglers as an easy entry point and infiltrate into Australia if border security is not improved.
