A Fiji government MP from the pro-coup Conservative Alliance Matanitu Vanua party has attacked the multi-party cabinet provisions of the constitution.
The Daily Post says Manasa Tugia has told parliament that the multi-party provision is an ill-fated attempt to appease a certain group in society and reflects simplistic, almost child-like naivety.
Mr Tugia has described the framers of the multi-party concept as intellectually senile architects who did not take into account the practical difficulties of sharing power by political parties which are diametrically opposed to each other.
He says the view that a multi-party government is just a matter of sharing an apportioned number of seats in cabinet is overly simplistic and rampant with inherent weaknesses which will undermine the dominant popular party in government.
