Palau to join intervention force in Solomon Islands

The president of Palau and the country's National Congress have agreed to send up to five police officers to join the Australian-led force in Solomon Islands.

President Tommy Remengesau says while Palau has a small force it will nevertheless join the operation.

Palau has no army but 140 police among whom more than a dozen have volunteered to go to Solomon Islands.

Its contingent will leave soon for peacekeeping taining in Australia.
