The first vist to Samoa by members of Japan's Imperial family is planned for October, when the Japanese funded Apia Port Expansion Project is handed over to the government of Samoa.

A release from Japan's embassy in New Zealand announced the visit of their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino.

Japan donated about six and a half million US dollars for the expansion project, part of continuing efforts to improve facilities at Apia Wharf for incoming ships.

Last year, Japan gave Samoa more than 4 million US dollars in aid.
