Solomon Islands government reshuffles top public servants

3:26 pm on 15 August 2003

The Solomon Islands government has announced a major effort to revitalise the public service.

A government spokesman says eight permanent secretaries will be reassigned, eight others will be made redundant and four under-secretaries will be promoted.

The action, which has been on hold since last month, will be finalised when the prime minister, Sir Allen Kemakeza, returns from the Forum summit underway in New Zealand.

The eight permanent secretaries being made redundant will not leave their jobs immediately but will continue to work under what the government calls special duties status.
