China warns Forum against strengthening ties with Taiwan

The head of the Chinese delegation at the post Forum talks being held in Auckland has warned that relationships with the region will suffer if ties with Taiwan are strengthened.

Four Forum countries recognise Taiwan.

But China's vice minister for Foreign Affairs, Zhou Wenzhong, says Taiwan pushes money diplomacy in an attempt to become a dialogue partner at the Forum.

Mr Zhou said any attempt to form such connections will damage the friendly ties between China and the Forum.

"Simply because they want to create tension in the cross-strait relations one way of doing it is to undermine our relations with countries having relations with us and I think this is not helpful in terms of the maintenance of stability of the region."
