PCRC says Australia should consult before imposing ideas on region

The Pacific Concerns Resource Centre in Fiji says Australia needs to change its attitude in the region and stop its attempts at re-colonisation.

The director of the PCRC, Hilda Lini, says the centre is opposed to Australian proposals, which were presented at the Pacific Islands Forum, for a common currency, labour market and regional police training.

Ms Lini says Australia needs to consult with countries in the region before it attempts to impose its ideas.

"It's a recolonisation process. we are always expected to just sit here and be imposed by any concepts or thoughts or plans. we don't have a say in it. Somebody else always comes and says this is how we should do it. This is what Australia has been doing."
