A meeting of the anti corruption watchdog group, Transparency International, has been told that fraudulent government in the island nations of the South Pacific is threatening the stability and development of the area.
The meeting on Australia's Gold Coast heard from the chairman of Transparency International in Papau New Guinea, Sir Anthony Siaguru.
He told the meeting that the failure of national leaders to uphold the law was driving away tourists and investment.
The Australian Associated Press quotes Sir Anthony as saying that if this inaction continued, Pacific communities would face a direct threat to sustainable development.
The meeting called on political leaders to implement the Principles of Good Leadership adopted at the Pacific Islands Forum in Auckland just over a week ago.
