Former Fiji PM Rabuka calls for compensation of coup victims

The former Fiji Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka, has called for compensation for all those who suffered loss of life, property or security during the 2000 coup.

Writing in the current issue of the Review magazine, Mr Rabuka says the compensation should be paid by all persons guilty of culpable activities or neglect, including the state.

He says the state must be included because in the final analysis, the government is responsible for the security of persons and property.

Mr Rabuka has also called for the setting up of a Reconciliation Commission to make recommendations on how a multi-cultural nation like Fiji can manage its affairs and avoid the pitfalls of pluralism
