Fiji's ministry of public enterprises has taken control of the Daily Post newspaper in which the state has a majority shareholding.

The deputy secretary for public enterprises, Lenaitasi Korodrau, will become the acting chief executive until a permanent appointment is made.

The Daily Post's chairman, Malakai Naiyaga, says board members would assume responsibility for the paper and manage the overall operations of the company.

The information minister, Simione Kaitani, is quoted as saying the management contract of Associated Media Limited and its managing director, Yashwant Gounder, were terminated yesterday.
