An opinion poll in Fiji shows that a majority of people want police to carry guns.

The Fiji Times-Tebbutt poll of over a thousand people shows 51 percent of people want police to be armed.

But an ethnic breakdown shows that while 59 per cent of Indians want police armed, only 44 per cent of indigenous Fijians do so.

The same survey also shows that an overwhelming majority of all racial groups want police to be armed with capsicum spray
