Solomons offers tax amnesty

10:16 am on 25 September 2003

The Solomon Islands authorities have launched a tax amnesty to encourage citizens to settle their affairs without facing penalties for outstanding taxes.

The Inland Revenue Division of the Finance Department says the amnesty will run until the end of the year to allow those who owe taxes to come forward.

In a public notice, the inland revenue commissioner has asked people to come forward if they have not registered as a business taxpayer, not lodged returns or not paid the correct amount.

Those failing to comply will face unspecified penalties and possible prosecution.
