Seven week strike at Fiji cannery settled

10:39 am on 25 September 2003

A seven week strike by more than 360 mainly indigenous women workers at Fiji's state owned tuna cannery has been settled.

The general secretary of the Fiji Trades Union Congress, Felix Anthony, who negotiated on behalf of the strikers says they will return to work on Monday but details of the settlement will not be made public.

But Fiji TV says it understands that the Pacific Fishing Company has agreed to implement an arbitration award handed down earlier this year.
