A chief is being ordained in Vanuatu in a village north of the capital Port Vila, twenty years after he took over the position.

Chief Henry Manlaewia of Paunangisu will take on the title "paramount chief" when other chiefs from the surrounding village take part in the special ceremony later today (Tues)

Our correspondent in Port Vila, Len Garae, describes the occasion:

"It's going to involve the use of traditional items, especially mats , foodstuffs that people are going to bring in , to show their respect and allegiance . There's going to be feasting through out , and custom dancing and that's going to take place today."
