Vanuatu's opposition attacks Australian foreign policy

The opposition in Vanuatu has again attacked Australia's foreign policy in the Pacific region.

The opposition leader, Willie Jimmy, says Canberra is using its retirees to fill top positions in regional organisations.

He said the policy was keeping Pacific Islanders bottled up.

Mr Jimmy told the Vanuatu Daily Post that regional organisations were the stepping stone to international organisations.

He asked how the Pacific could develop home grown diplomats and professionals who could represent the Pacific at international level.

Mr Jimmy also says there is a need to provide a core of professionals who could represent the Pacific on global issues.
