New police post for Lata in Solomon's Temotu Province

The Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands has opened a new police post in the town of Lata in Temotu province as part of efforts to improve policing in the regions.

A delegation from RAMSI visited Lata over the weekend to establish the post and meet provincial leaders.

At a public meeting in the town, the Deputy Police Commissioner, Ben McDevitt, said RAMSI has now established eight new police posts and made 170 arrests, 21 of them police officers.

Some of those officers, he said, were of high rank .

Forty other members of the Police had been sacked.
