Fire continues to rage in Samoa despite rainfall

Samoa's entire fire service remains deployed on Savai'i island where a large fire has continued for more than a week.

The fire in the Asau area has engulfed dozens of acres of forests and is threatening taro plantations as drought conditions continue.

Some heavy rain last night and this morning has helped the service fight the fire, but Savai'i police say they are still struggling to make headway against it.
