Police working with the Australian-led intervention force in Solomon Islands have arrested a second man in relation to the murder of a former senior Guadacanal militant leader.

Benedict Indu was arrested by police on Friday and charged with the abduction and murder of Selwyn Saki.

Saki was a Supreme Commander of the Guadacanal-based Isatambu Freedom Movement (IFM), which fought against the Malaita Eagle Force during the civil unrest in the Solomons.

Saki was abducted from his village by an armed group in September 2001. His body was found burnt and mutilated, in an abandoned car the following day.

Earlier this month police arrested former MEF Commander Moses Su'u in connection with Saki's death.
