Cook Islands Tourism Authority CE wants hotel deal to go ahead

4:27 pm on 12 November 2003

The chief executive of the Cook Islands Tourism Authority says he hopes the deal goes through to complete the long delayed Vaimaaga hotel.

The proposed developers, the Tepaki Group, has been given six weeks by the lawyer for the landowner, Pa Ariki, to prove that they have the finance in place.

This follows the publication of a draft lease agreement from the Tepaki Group asking for certain conditions to be met and for a twelve month period to finalise the details.

The chief executive of the Tourism Authority, Chris Wong, says it would be good to see the deal for the hotel go ahead.

"It's been lingering there for a few years now - I think it's in everybody's interest to have some conclusion on it and it certainly would provide the impetus for ensuring that issues such as additional air services, the logistics of feeding the outer island developments - it will make it a more viable proposition"
