American Samoa has won the right to host the 2004 annual Miss South Pacific Pageant after last week's meeting of the pageant's board of directors in Apia.

American Samoa outbid the Cook Islands, Tonga, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas and Tuvalu.

The territory's director of Commerce, Aliimau Scanlan, says he is extremely happy that American Samoa has been given the opportunity after hosting the event in 2000.

Allimau says this will be another chance for the territory to encourage the promotion of the tourism industry and a chance for the government to polish up developments to attract more visitors.
