PNG supreme court yet to disclose ruling in governor general appointment

Papua News Guinea's Supreme Court says it will be next week before it makes a substantive ruling on the Ombudsman Commission request that it overturn parliament's election of Sir Albert Kipalan as the next Governor General.

The court had ruled earlier that Chief Ombudsman Ila Geno and a candidate for the position, Bernard Narokobi, had standing to be involved in the proceedings but reserved its decision on the standing of the Commission until after it makes its principal ruling on the merits of the case.

Chief Justice, Sir Mari Kapi, has told the Post Courier newspaper that the reasons for the latest ruling would be delivered after the substantive decision was made.
