Senior Solomons police officer appears in court

A senior Solomon Islands police officer with links to the former Malaita Eagle Force militant group appeared in court on Friday and was told he would be required to offer pleas to charges against him at his next appearance.

Superintendent James Kili faces a range of charges including assault occasioning bodily harm, threatening violence with a firearm and three counts of receiving stolen property.

He will be required to enter pleas at his next appearance in two weeks time.

Kili was a field commander with the Malaita Eagle Force and a key member of the Police Field Force that joined with members of the MEF to overthrow the elected government in the coup of June 2000
