Cook Islands police arrest parliamentary staffer

Police in the Cook Islands have arrested and charged a member of the staff of a member of the parliament over a theft-related matter.

The Cook Islands News says the man has been granted interim name suppression.

It says when the man was arrested he was working at a different department to the one where he was at the time when he allegedly commitment the offence which the newspaper says relates to purchases for the government.

The man is due to appear in court in two weeks.
