Former Vanuatu deputy prime minister says PM will ousted by December

The former Vanuatu deputy prime minister and president of the francophone Union of Moderate Parties, Serge Vohor, says the prime minister, Edward Natapei, will not last in office until December.

Earlier this week, Mr Vohor and the UMP were dumped from the government coalition and replaced with the opposition National United Party and some independents.

Mr Vohor, who had signed a deal with Mr Natapei committing to maintain the coalition for the full four-year term, says the biggest threat the prime minister now faces is from within his own Vanuaaku Pati.

His statement follows reports that disgruntled Vanuaaku Pati backbenchers are considering supporting a vote of no confidence in Mr Natapei.
