Drunken Fiji soldiers sent home from Iraq

11:26 am on 22 November 2003

Three Fijian soldiers found drunk while on private security duties in Iraq have been sent home after just three months of service.

Lt Cl Sakiusa Raivoce, the Fiji representative for the British company contracting the soldiers, says the three had breached their contract and were repatriated.

"They drank. I think there is drink available there. I don't know where they got it from. They were caught and then they were disciplined for a breach of their contract and were sent home."

He says the men regretted their actions and wanted to return to Iraq, but there were at least a thousand other volunteers lined up to go over.

He says the men are registered with Global Risk Strategies and are calling daily to see if there are any vacancies.
