Pacific Islands Aids Foundation launches campaign to improve testing rates

4:57 pm on 1 December 2003

Activists in the Pacific are marking World AIDS Day with the launch of a new campaign telling Pacific Islanders that they are all HIV positive until proven negative.

Maire Bopp du Pont is the chief executive officer for Pacific Islands AIDS Foundation.

She says her organisation's new campaign is an attempt to overcome low rates of HIV testing in the region:

"Even where structures have improved, testing is still very low to non-existent in many countries and territories ..and even where structures are very well placed, we have observed a decrease in people going for testing."
