The winner of last week's by-election in Vanuatu, Barak Sope, says should he be returned to government, he will make sure that those who put him in jail face the consequences.
Mr Sope regained the seat for Efate rural that was declared vacant after he was jailed for fraud by defeating Foster Rakom of the Vanuaaku Pati by more than 500 votes.
Mr Sope, who was pardoned by the president, says the result shows that the people of Efate don't support the prime minister or the Vanuaaki Pati.
He did not say what action he may take against tos behind his conviction and jailing.
Mr Sope, a former prime minister, says he'll be in opposition amid hopes for a change of government as a vote of no confidence in the government is planned for Thursday.
The newly appointed foreign minister, Moana Carcasses, says the ruling coalition is united and the motion will fail.
