Refugees from Solomons Weather Coast return home

11:18 am on 6 December 2003

Over 200 displaced people who fled from fighting and civic unrest in the previously lawless Weather Coast region of Guadalcanal in Solomon Islands have returned to their villages.

The National Disaster Managment Office said 52 families had dismantled their temporary shelters on the outskirts of Honiara. and travelled by boat to Marasa on the Weather Coast.

The redeployment of around thirty soldiers from the Regional Assistance Mission or RAmsi, have allayed fears of many displaced people who were previously unwilling to return to their villages due to concerns over security.
