Fiji's minister for home affairs has described the May 2000 coup and associated events as illegal and evil.
The Daily Post says Jonetani Cokanasiga made the comment while opening a retreat for senior police officers.
Mr Cokanasiga said after the coup, it could clearly be seen by the authorities and the common people that the morale of the police was at an all-time low.
He said the officers were also abused by lawless elements that had emerged in society.
Mr Cokanasiga called on the senior officers to reverse the false notions of heroism that may have lavished praise on those who carried out the May 2000 insurgency.
