Private Fiji company confident over challenge from Fiji Broadcasting Corporation

2:36 pm on 9 December 2003

The News Director at Communications Fiji Limited, Vijay Narayan, says he's not worried about a challenge to the awarding of a public broadcasting contract to the company.

The state-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation, has indicated it will challenge the decision of the Major Tenders Board in court.

In an unprecedented move the Board awarded the 630-thousand US dollar Hindi Language Contract to CFL, which is a private company.

The information minister, Simione Kaitani, says the cabinet has also decided to form a sub-committee comprising of himself, the finance minister and the attorney general to look at the government's options.

Mr Narayan says the Major Tenders Board was apolitical and he says the process was legal.

Mr Narayan says the setting up of the sub-committee doesn't mean the government is looking at reversing the decision.
