The British host of a History Channel television series has died in a diving accident in Palau.

Michael Norwood, an experienced diver and instructor, drowned on Saturday after diving 250 feet to the Second World War shipwreck, the USS Perry, for a film in the Deep Sea Detectives series.

The show's producer says Mr Norwood signalled to fellow divers that he had run out of air but then failed to switch his reserve tanks.

They tried to bring him to the surface sharing their air but Mr Norwood lost consciousness and died.

There has been no autopsy to determine the cause of death.
