Two asylum seekers on a hunger strike to protest against detention on Nauru are reported to have been to hospital.

They are among 19 asylum seekers refusing to accept food or water, saying they want to be released from detention or die.

The Australian Associated Press says four Afghani men have sewn their lips together as part of the protest.

More than 280 asylum seekers, including 93 children, are being detained on Nauru as part of the Australian government's so-called Pacific Solution.
