Fiji's Prosecutors say there is not enough evidence to prosecute Colonel Isikia Savua

Fij's Director of Public Prosecutions has ruled that there is not enough evidence of the former police commissioner, Colonel Isikia Savua's alleged involvement in the coup to lay charges.

Fiji TV reports that this has been confirmed by the police spokesman, Mesake Koroi.

Mr Koroi says the DPP's Office has recommended that further investigations be carried out.

He says while the file on Col Savua is still open, they cannot do much unless concrete evidence comes to hand.

Mr Koroi says it's crunch time now and people must come forward if they have evidence.

Otherwise, the new police commissioner, Andrew Hughes, has said all files will be closed at the end of the year.

Col Savua was appointed Fiji's ambassador to the United Nations in January this year.
