4:37 pm on 22 December 2003

A strike at Air Tahiti Nui has ended after union members at the French Polynesia flag carrier agreed to return to work.

The figure of those taking action to press for better conditions varied between 40 and 100 but all have resumed their duties.

The Tahitipresse news agency says the strike ended when the president of the territorial government, Gaston Flosse, spoke with union leaders and assured them that they pay scales would be looked at next year.

No flight was reportedly affected by the strike which began on December the 11th.
