The proposed purchase of the McDonald's Samoa franchise by the American Samoan franchise has not gone ahead.

Agaoleatu Charlie Tautolo, the owner and operator of the Pago Pago franchise, had begun negotiations for purchasing the Apia franchise early last year.

However, Agaoleatu says the sale was not approved by McDonald's Australia.

It's reported the problem is with the government land on which the McDonalds franchise is located in Samoa.

He says he will now concentrate on opening a second restaurant in American Samoa, with construction due to get underway early next year.

The first McDonalds opened in the territory in September 2000.
