Samoa's popular coastal resorts on Savaii island bore the brunt of cyclone Heta, which swept through the region this week.

National Disaster Komiti vice chairman, Va'asitia Poloma Komiti, says damage to fales, or houses by the beach, have been hit the hardest, especially in Stevenson's resort.

"Its the beach resorts, y'know the beach fales, by its name, is located on the beach - that's where they were hit the hardest. Im glad you mentioned that, Stevenson was probably the hardest hit. I think they suffered considerable damage in their beach fales. We didn't see a sign of life there."

Va'asitia Komiti says some coastal resorts suffered a lot more damage than others on both islands.

He says people are now busy trying to fully restore power and water, as well as clean up debris from the storm.
