Radio Fiji quotes Marshall Islands officials as saying that prostitutes from China usually fly into the country through Fiji and Kiribati.
The prostitutes avoid going through Guam because they need American visas to transit.
A story in the Taipei Times says getting American visas is very difficult for Chinese citizens.
A spokesman for the Marshall Islands Visitors Authority says the prostitutes ply their trade primarily on fishing vessels in the lagoons, with seamen from Taiwan, Japan and South Korea being the most frequent visitors of the prostitutes.
