Fiji to export cross-bred sheep to Samoa

11:20 am on 23 January 2004

A variety of sheep cross-bred in Fiji for tropical conditions is to be exported to Samoa.

This follows an agreement between agricultural officials of the two countries and final approval for the deal by the Samoan cabinet.

The first shipment of about 15 sheep and one ram will be used for breeding purposes in Samoa.

A Fiji official says because the variety was bred in Fiji, the country will retain intellectual property rights over it.

He says the next shipment is likely to be to Tonga.
