Australian/Chinese venture bids for Fiji airport contract

A Chinese government-owned company and another from Australia are reported to be interested in forming a joint venture with a Fiji company to take over management of Nausori Airport.

The Daily Post reports that this has been confirmed by the chairman of Fiji's Strategic Air Services Limited, which currently provides air traffic control services at Nadi and Nausori.

Navitalai Naisoro says they are confident that with the new joint venture they can turn Nausori around from a loss-making airport into a profitable one.

The current operator of Nausori, the state-owned Airports Fiji Limited, wants to outsource management after the airport made losses of more than 870,000 US dollars last year.
