European firm to put communications satellite in orbit over Pacific

A European company has signed a deal to build a telecommunications satellite to orbit over the Pacific.

Alcatel Space will construct the WorldSat Three which will be able to be used by broadcasters, internet service providers, government agencies and educational institutions.

Alcatel says the spacecraft will be able to deliver communications across the Pacific Ocean from California to Bangladesh, and from Alaska to New Zealand.
