Fiji trails mango exports by ship

Fiji has for the first time exported a consignment of 8 tonnes of hybrid mangoes by ship to New Zealand.

The manager of Jack's farm in Nadi, a commercial producer and exporter of mangoes, says exporting by sea is cheaper than air freight.

The farm had exported another consignment of eight tonnes by air last November.

Radio Fiji says if the current shipment is successful, it is likely to pave the way for large future exports of mangoes and other fruit by sea.
