Fiji welcomes New Zealand anti-terrorism offer

Fiji's foreign minister, Kaliopate Tavola, has welcomed a New Zealand offer to assist with efforts to fight terrorism.

The New Zealand foreign minister, Phil Goff, told delegates at a ministerial conference on counter terrorism on the Indonesian island of Bali that Wellington would help small countries adopt relevant international conventions.

Mr Tavola says this is good news for Fiji.

"Any assistance to help us with the ratification of the conventions and also drafting of laws relating to counter terrorism would be very useful. We don't have the resources. If there are any concepts that can be offered we would certainly welcome them."
